So, we’re gonna learn English for sales strategies, for making suggestions and for responding to suggestions.

A: All right, people. We’re holding this meeting today because we’ve got to do something about our sales, and we need to do it NOW! I want concrete solutions. How do you plan to drive sales... Roger?

A: Yeah, exactly. That’s just what I was thinking! In fact, that’s a brilliant idea! I’m glad we thought of that. Very creative.

Welcome back. Let's look at some pronunciation tips of words in the dialogue.欢迎回来，现在一起来看一下对话中单词的实用发音技巧。

our发音的简便方法our /ɑːr/ , /ˈaʊər/发音注意点：our有两种发音，第一个发音只有2个音标，发音起来更方便，所以很多时候会听到这一种发音。对话中：Manager ： Because we’ve got to do something about our sales.

2. 词内Flap T：better /ˈbetər/

对话中：Manager：Anyone have a better plan?Flap T 分析：我们有讲过相邻单词在辅元连读基础之上，当/t/在两个元音之间且非重读的时候，/t/可以读为一个很轻的/d/，那如果是在单词内出现这种情况，像这里/t/在元音/e/和/ə/之间，而且非重读，所以读为/ˈbetər/。复述：Anyone have a better plan？

OK, all right. Let's look at some interesting vocabulary here.

好的，我们来看一些有趣的词汇。

Let’s start with the first word - creative.

那么第一个单词是creative.

1. creative /kriˈeɪtɪv/ adj.创造的，创作的

那我记得以前在学校读书的时候，老师就说希望我们有creative thinking, 创造性思维，那不管是在学校还是在生活或者职场中，都要有creative thinking. Manager说Roger的想法：Not very creative. 那比如说现在这个部门成立一个创意小组，就是creative team.

Okay, so, let’s move on to our second word.

好的，那么，现在让我们来看看我们的第二个词promotion.

2. promotion/prəˈməʊʃn/ n.推广

So, what is a promotion exactly?

所以， promotion准确来说到底是什么？

It means a marketing strategy in this dialogue.

在这个对话里是指营销策略。

Okay, so, I can give you an example. Suppose that I wanna buy shampoo.

好的，我可以举个例子，假设我想买洗发水。

And, if I go to the supermarket and I see“Buy one and get one free”.

如果我去超市看到“买一送一”

So, that’s a two-for-one.

所以这是买一送一.

That’s a two-for-one promotion, right?

Yeah, okay. That’s a sales promotion.

So, let’s move on to our third word- brilliant.

3. brilliant /ˈbrɪliənt/ adj.极好的

That’s a great word right there.

这是一个很棒的词。

A lot of people might say “That’s a great idea!” or “Great!”, but in the dialogue we heard another way of saying this same idea.

很多人可能会说：“真是个好主意！”或者“太好了！”，但在对话中我们听到了另一种表达同样观点的方式。

That’s a brilliant idea.这是一个绝妙的主意。

Now let's look at some interesting phrases.

Okay, the first one is drive sales.

好的，第一个是“推动销量”。

1. drive sales 推动销量

To drive sales, and that means…

推动销量，意思就是，

To increase sales.

为了提高销量。

Or to sell more.

或者是为了卖得更多。

所以如果你也是做销售的工作，像Dialogue里的Roger一样，被你的经理问道

“How do you plan to drive sales?”

你打算怎样增加销售？

Ok. Now let's look at our second phrase and it's “in the market”.

现在让我们看看我们的第二个短语，它是in the market。

2. in the market 在市场上

We heard this phrase in the dialogue and it means in the industry.

我们在对话中听到了这个短语，它的意思是在行业中。

I can say, for example, iPods are the most popular mp3-players in the market” 我可以说，比如： “ iPod 是市场上最流行的 MP3 播放器。”

So our third phrase is “match the competitors”.

我们今天第三个短语是match the competitors。

3. match the competitors比得过竞争对手（的价格优势）

Okay, now, I’ll give you an example.

好，现在，让我来举个例子，我们来在句子中体会一下。

It’s impossible for us to match the competitors. Our costs are just too high.

Now let's look at our last phrase. And it's “It’ll never fly”.

最后一个短语是 It’ll never fly.

4. It’ll never fly.不会奏效。

So, this phrase sounds a little bit strange.

所以，这个短语听起来有点奇怪。

Fly? Are we talking about an airplane here? What's going on?

飞?我们是在谈论飞机吗?怎么回事?

But we’re not, so, we’re gonna give you some examples and try and guess what it’ll never fly really means.

但我们不是，所以来举几个例子，试着猜猜 it’ll never fly是什么意思。

Example1.This marketing plan will never fly. It’s just too expensive.

Example 2.Brad told me his idea for film script, but the story will never fly. It’s not interesting enough.

So, it means it won’t work.
